Until 2016, there were no grapes or wine to be found in the charming village of Liezele. What you did find were quintessential Flemish landscapes and scenic walking trails nestled in the green heart of the Scheldeland. When entrepreneur Jan Van Lancker came across a charismatic yet dilapidated farmhouse with surrounding land in Liezele, he was immediately captivated by the place, though he had no concrete plans for it at the time. That changed a few months later, when he crossed paths with Pieter Raeymaekers, a fellow entrepreneur with a passion for wine and a boyhood dream lying dormant: to one day make wine in Belgium.
Together, they began studying the soil and exploring the possibilities of building a Belgian winery. Not long after, the first vines were planted, and the architectural plans by Vincent Van Duysen began to take shape: a contemporary winery rising from the foundations. The name Valke Vleug was found on an old cadastral map, referring to the terroir, as if it were meant to be. From there, it was up to the soil, the vines, the grapes, and the sun.
In the meantime, one dream led to another: launching Belgium’s first online wine boutique, specializing in cool climate wines.
Vinetiq was born, devoted to refined and surprising wines of character, all bearing the hallmark of cool climate viticulture.
